My Profile:
Hi! My name is Yasamin, I am a high school senior in the Atlanta area. I love math and learning about new places, which is why I would like to someday be a city planner. It's super important to be involved in your local government, so I'm going to be a big part of mine!
My Mentorship:
I am currently mentoring with the City of Alpharetta's Community Development and Zoning department. My mentor is Michael Woodman, the Senior Planner for the city, but I get the opportunity to shadow the other members of the department as well. At my mentorship I sit in on meetings with developers, residents of Alpharetta, and other city employees. I am currently helping with the North Point LCI project. I really enjoy my mentorship because the staff is always trying to make sure I am involved and aware of what is going on. I also try to attend Public Hearings and Planning Commission meetings.
My future:
Next year, I hope to be attending my dream college and majoring in a field that will help my prepare for a Master's Degree in City Planning. I am so fortunate to have this mentorship so I can get an idea of my future career before I even begin my higher education. My mentorship has been a really big help in showing me "what they don't teach you in college" and determining what classes I should take for my major.
